Redispersible polymer powder is a free-flowing white powdered polymer, typically produced from polymer emulsions such as vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer (VAE) through a spray-drying process, with polyvinyl alcohol as a protective colloid. Its key characteristic is the ability to rapidly redisperse in water to form a stable polymer emulsion. Upon water evaporation, it forms a continuous polymer film with high flexibility, strong adhesion, and excellent weather resistance. Depending on the polymer composition, RDP is available in different grades—rigid, medium-flexible, and highly flexible—to meet various application requirements.
RDP is widely used in dry-mix mortars, including tile adhesives, external thermal insulation systems, rendering mortars, putty powders, self-leveling compounds, and grouts. In the wet mortar stage, it improves workability, enhances thixotropy and sag resistance, extends open time, and increases water retention. After the mortar hardens, it significantly boosts tensile strength, flexural strength, and cohesive strength, while reducing elastic modulus and water absorption, thereby imparting better flexibility and crack resistance to the mortar. The core value of RDP lies in overcoming the inherent brittleness and high elastic modulus of traditional cement mortar, delivering superior adhesion, flexibility, and durability.
