Polyvinyl alcohol powder for construction is a water-soluble polymer, appearing as a white or slightly yellowish powder. It is non-toxic and odorless. Typically produced from polyvinyl alcohol resin derived from the petroleum ethylene method, it undergoes processes such as high-temperature dissolution, purification, and spray drying. The powder readily dissolves in cold water.
Polyvinyl alcohol powder is mainly used as an additive in dry-mix mortars to improve material performance. Its key functions include: enhancing adhesion, flexibility, and water retention of mortar when used together with water-retaining agents; effectively reducing mortar friction to prevent cracking and peeling of plaster layers; and the film it forms increases interfacial bonding strength and crack resistance.

PVA-2488 is mainly used in various building materials such as dry powder putty, dry– mix mortar and gypsum products. It can effectively increase the adhesion of cement, lime calcium and gypsum, improve the workability, slow down the drying time of the finished product surface, and prevent the surface coating cracking. It is suitable for interior wall decoration and tile bonding.
Enhanced Bond Strength
PVA improves mortar/putty adhesion, prevents hollowing/peeling. Bond strength is 2.5–3× higher than redispersible polymer powder.
Improved Flexibility & Crack Resistance
PVA imparts flexibility, controls micro-cracks from shrinkage/temperature changes, reduces friction, prevents plaster cracking/peeling, extends service life.
Enhanced Water Retention
Works with cellulose ethers to slow water evaporation, prolong open time, ensure cement hydration, improve workability and final strength.
Excellent Film-Forming
PVA dissolves in water to form a transparent film with good strength and solvent resistance, increasing compactness, durability, and preventing powdering.
