Polypropylene fibers(PP Fiber) for construction are chopped monofilament synthetic fibers made via melt spinning, drawing, and cutting. They are the most widely used synthetic fiber in concrete engineering. With a density of only 0.91 g/cm³, polypropylene is the lightest among major synthetic fibers and offers excellent resistance to strong acids and alkalis, as well as low thermal conductivity. Typically cut to 3–20 mm lengths, these fibers are uniformly dispersed in concrete or mortar during mixing to provide physical reinforcement.
In construction, polypropylene fibers serve as a “secondary reinforcement” material for concrete and mortar. They effectively control micro-cracks caused by plastic shrinkage, moisture evaporation, and temperature changes, while also preventing further crack propagation. This significantly improves crack resistance, impermeability, impact resistance, and freeze-thaw durability. They are widely used in underground waterproofing, slabs, roofs, water tanks, roads, bridges, airport runways, and shotcrete linings for tunnels, as well as in wall plasters and thermal insulation mortars.
