HEMC/MHEC (Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose) is a non-ionic cellulose ether produced from natural cellulose through alkalization followed by etherification with ethylene oxide and methyl chloride. Compared with HPMC, HEMC offers superior water retention and enzyme resistance, lower surface activity, better dispersion in cement-based materials, and a higher gelation temperature, making it well suited for applications in high-temperature environments.
HEMC is primarily used in the construction and building materials sector, widely applied in tile adhesives, rendering mortars, and putty powders under high-temperature conditions, where it functions as a thickener, water retention agent, workability improver, and open‑time extender. It can also be used in coatings and detergent products, where it provides high clarity and stability.
